- ➤ Northern Illinois Food Bank and Second Harvest Heartland have launched the Kickoff to End Hunger Challenge to raise funds that provide $8 in groceries for each donated dollar. The challenge began on August 27 and will end on September 8—supporters can help win bragging rights and have one CEO wear the winning team's jersey. Daily Herald
- ➤ The Elgin Fire Department will hold its annual open house on Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 650 Big Timber Road—offering live demonstrations like a K-9 display and fire safety checks for local families. City of Elgin

- ➤ The Elgin Parks and Recreation Foundation will host its 14th annual Illinois Brews @ Bowes Creek fundraiser at Bowes Creek Country Club on Saturday, Sept. 6, where over 20 breweries will offer craft and home brew tastings from 4-8 p.m. Nearby suburbs will hold additional beer fests through Oct. 18 that support local causes — events that provide early VIP access— with ticket prices ranging from $45 to $80.
