- ➤ Large police presence was in Elgin on Saturday morning near the 1300 block of N. Lyle Avenue as officers investigated a suspect with a weapon—police said there was no threat to the public and the situation was safely resolved by 7:20 a.m. ABC7 Chicago
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Elgin is seeking seven residents to join its Martin Luther King Jr. subcommittee, which will plan annual events, food donations, and scholarship programs honoring his legacy—priority goes to those with past MLK program experience. Appointments will be made later this year as residents submit their applications. Daily Herald
- ➤ Elgin resident Cody Holt—who once served on the U-46 school board—launched his state Senate campaign for the 33rd District as state Sen. Don DeWitte will not run for reelection, and he plans to focus on gun rights and education reforms. Lake Forest lawyer Jamie Moorhead will also run for a state House seat in March, saying he aims to bring tax relief, economic growth, and stronger public education to his constituents. Daily Herald
