- ➤ Elgin will hold its annual Patriot Day remembrance ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6 on the west side steps of City Hall at 150 Dexter Court—if inclement weather occurs the ceremony will move to the Hemmens Cultural Center. Local officials including Mayor David Kaptain will speak as honor guards retire the colors to remember the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. City of Elgin

- ➤ U-46 financial services department was honored with an Accent on Achievement award at the Aug. 18 board meeting—its ninth win for presenting clear and accurate budget documents that meet national standards. The award recognizes the team's strong commitment to sound fiscal management. Daily Herald

- ➤ The Ecker Center for Behavioral Health hosts 'Breaking the Silence' on Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 1845 Grandstand Place in Elgin to honor those lost to overdose and suicide—community members, survivors and leaders will share their experiences and resources while families may submit names for the Memorial Walk until today.
