Good morning, Elgin.

The Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League donated $100,000 to the Gail Borden Foundation to renovate the children’s area at the library into a park style space near the winding river and picnic areas — the donation supports efforts that date back to the club’s role in creating the Walton Islands. The chapter continues to host programs and meetings at the local Izaak Walton Center.

Hemmens Cultural Center is starting its 2025-26 season with a mix of puppetry, music and comedy that will offer something for everyone.

It opens Sept. 19 with 'Juana and the Missing Mayan Book'—a family adventure by Rocio Cabrera, and more shows will follow through May.
