- ➤ Nine girls from the Homeless Prevention Center in Blue Island and their two chaperones with Unlimited Potential spent Aug. 9-10 at The Atrium at Oak Crest in Elgin, where they toured the building, joined a scavenger hunt and bonfire, and ended with a meal hosted by local musician Vinnie Hunley — all aimed at helping the girls gain essential life skills and connections. - ➤ Kane County Animal Control announced that its drive-through rabies vaccine and microchip clinics will be held on Aug. 23 and Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sept. 17 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Animal Control Facility, 4060 Keslinger Road, Geneva. Pet owners must verify that their pet has not bitten anyone in the past 10 days and will pay different fees based on the pet's neutered status. Daily Herald
