- ➤ A recent report from the Kane County Continuum of Care showed that over 1,700 people experienced homelessness last year — highlighting the need for more permanent supportive housing, expanded shelters, and mental health services for seniors, people with disabilities, and families affected by domestic violence. The Health Department now manages the CoC to align housing and health services while addressing a critically low 1% vacancy rate for affordable rentals. Daily Herald
- ➤ The Elgin Elks Lodge 737 invites locals to celebrate 123 years of service—providing free hot dogs, chips, soda and games—on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 139 W. River Road. Daily Herald

- ➤ Legit Dogs & Ice in South Elgin will close Aug. 24 after only a few months of service. The owners said they made many accommodations for the village at high expense and will end this business over the disagreements. Daily Herald

- ➤ Elgin’s 43rd Historic House Tour returns and will take place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the northwest side, where seven historic homes will open with bilingual docents—guests may also enjoy a food court nearby. City of Elgin
- ➤ Chamber Music on the Fox announced its 2025-26 season—a five-concert subscription series called 'Snapshots in Sound' that will feature local and guest musicians. The season will start in October in Elgin and Aurora and continue with themed concerts in December, February, April and June. Daily Herald
