CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Heather Unbehaun from Wheaton pleaded guilty to abducting her daughter after failing to return the child to her South Elgin father on July 5, 2017 (she fled first to Georgia then to Oregon and was arrested in March 2023) and remains free on bond while awaiting sentencing on Oct. 8. Daily Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, August 11th, 33,000 students returned to class in Elgin’s U-46 School District. The district extended school days by 20 minutes at 38 schools and planned to retire three elementary schools — Lowrie Elementary held its final flag-raising ceremony with the mayor and police chief expected to attend. - ➤ More than 33,000 students returned to U-46 schools Monday as the district started classes while three elementary schools—Washington and Lowrie in Elgin and Hanover Countryside in Streamwood—held their last first day before closing at the end of the school year. The district is also upgrading its facilities with additions at Kenyon Woods and Kimball Middle Schools, a new middle school in Elgin scheduled for occupancy in August, and completed renovations at Hawk Hollow while preschool students will return on August 18.
