- ➤ Anderson Humane Wildlife Center in Elburn introduced Lottie, an integrated milk snake with reddish blotches, as its ambassador to help people learn that snakes are harmless—she joins other animal ambassadors in educational visits. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a public hearing at Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin, about 100 residents and utility advocates testified against Nicor Gas’s proposed 9.21% rate increase — part of a $308 million request to fund new infrastructure—as the Citizens Utility Board sharply criticized the plan. The Illinois Commerce Commission will rule on the proposal in November. Shaw Local
- ➤ Elgin will host an open house on August 12 to review plans to convert the Highland and Lyle Avenues intersection into a roundabout at The Centre of Elgin (100 Symphony Way). The meeting runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and residents can view exhibits, ask questions, and submit written comments by August 26. City of Elgin

State Street in Elgin to open The Wildwoods, a housing project that offers 24 permanent supportive units and 50 affordable units.
