- ➤ National Night Out is an annual event that lets community members meet local police and emergency teams. The South Elgin Back-to-School Night Out will be held Friday, Aug. 1, from 4-8 p.m. at Panton Mill Park—featuring family activities and first responder displays. Daily Herald
- ➤ Rescued animals from Texas floods arrived at Aurora Municipal Airport on Thursday and were taken in by local shelters including Anderson Humane in South Elgin — which received a cat, a kitten and three puppies. The animals will be spayed, neutered and examined and will be available for adoption next week. Daily Herald

- ➤ The Elgin Police Department’s Cold Case Unit will launch the second season of Somebody Knows Something on Aug.11, featuring six unsolved cases from the 1970s — including a 1971 homicide at the former Woodruff & Edwards Foundry in downtown Elgin. Detectives Andrew Houghton and new partner Detective Chris Hall will guide listeners through individual investigations in each episode. City of Elgin
- ➤ A man from Elgin, David C. Minard, 46, appeared in court Friday facing 28 felony charges for possessing explosives found at a Kane County home—he remains in jail and is set to have another court appearance on Sept. 12. Daily Herald
- ➤ Elgin Police Department’s Cold Case Unit is set to launch season two of its podcast 'Somebody Knows Something' on Aug. 11 to examine five unsolved murders and one disappearance from the 1970s—new episodes will include cases such as the murder of Alanis Guadalupe and the disappearance of Barbara Glueckert.
