- ➤ Families are invited to celebrate the end of summer at Elgin’s annual End of Summer Bash on Aug. 9, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Festival Park. The free event will feature giant dinosaurs, a live volcano, interactive activities, live music, up to 20 food vendors and free parking downtown, and guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. - ➤ Nine furry pets from Texas will arrive at Anderson Humane today to ease overcrowding in an Austin shelter after recent floods. The animals—carefully selected by Austin Pets Alive!—will receive health checks and care from staff before being put up for adoption. Daily Herald

- ➤ Authorities reported that a 19-year-old man died after his Kawasaki motorcycle collided with a black Range Rover SUV at the intersection of Randall and Red Gate roads near St. Charles just after midnight Tuesday — investigators are reviewing the crash details and awaiting toxicology results.
