  • La Michoacana Extreme, a new ice cream shop, will open tomorrow at 321 Randall Road in South Elgin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony—entertainment and ice cream coupons will also be offered. West Dundee resident Yuli Gasca, who built a home-based cake business over seven years, will serve 28 paleta flavors and 36 ice cream flavors in this first Michoacana store in the area.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tickets for the Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour finale will be on sale this weekend for a concert on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at First Congregational Church—Jeff Neufeld will perform on the historic organ while Chad Goodman conducts the Elgin Symphony Orchestra in works including a North American premiere.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elgin installed new wedge safety barriers along Riverside Drive and South Grove Avenue this week—designed to restrict vehicle access while keeping pedestrian flow. The barriers will fully activate from July 18 through Oct. 12—rising and lowering on a scheduled basis during weekend events.  City of Elgin
  • Hanover Township's Mental Health Board — which supports mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse intervention — has opened Fiscal Year 2027 funding applications for agencies serving township residents. Completed applications are due by Friday, Sept. 19 and agencies will be notified in January 2026.  Daily Herald
