COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A series of Fourth of July events will take place across the region, with fireworks, parades and festivals planned in towns like Wheaton, Carpentersville and Fox Lake. A Field of Honor at Seven Gables Park and a patriotic concert by the local symphony on July 2+ many other community activities will offer celebrations through early July.  Daily Herald
  • The City of Elgin will hold a full slate of Fourth of July events including a parade + pet parade starting at 9 a.m. along a route from Slade Avenue to Highland Avenue near City Hall. Evening festivities at Festival Park, beginning at 5 p.m., will feature live music + food trucks, a pie-eating contest and a free fireworks display starting at 9:30 p.m. with VIP tickets available for $25.  Kane County Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Patricia Dal Santo, who has led the Kane County Regional Office of Education for 13 years, announced she will retire on June 30 — marking the end of her tenure. The board appointed John Jonak of Batavia as her successor and he will begin his role on July 1 — serving out her term until Nov. 3.  Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • VNA Health Care—the largest community health center in the Chicago suburbs—is urging parents in Elgin to schedule school and sports physicals for children required for kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grades so they do not miss school or team tryouts. The center offers same-day and walk-in care at its locations to give families early, flexible access to screenings regardless of insurance.  Daily Herald
