  • On June 10, Marklund celebrated the opening of its renovated Miracle League baseball field at the Geneva campus after a donor campaign raised over $257,000 — surpassing its $250,000 goal with a $100,000 gift from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. Marklund officials said the field’s rubberized surface and embedded bases will provide safe play and serve as a venue for summer baseball games for residents and volunteers.  Daily Herald

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged an apartment unit at River’s Landing in Elgin Tuesday—causing about $50,000 in damage and displacing one family while firefighters controlled the blaze in 10 minutes with no injuries and investigators look into the cause.  Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At its June 9 board meeting, U-46 honored nearly 100 high school students for their excellence in fine arts through awards in music, acting & technical skills after the district was named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by a national group. The event recognized students for achievements including All-State honors, featured productions, and top placements in competitive auditions.  Daily Herald

  • The Interstate 8 released its all-conference teams for six spring sports on Thursday. Coaches selected players for baseball, girls soccer, softball, boys tennis, girls track and field, and boys track and field — the rosters include athletes from several local schools.  Kane County Chronicle
