- ➤ Illinois firefighters responded to 17,437 more false alarms in 2024 than three years ago, with Elgin Fire Chief Robb Cagann noting that fines start only after three repeated calls—officials say that many of these alarms alert building owners to needed repairs and that a new reporting system will be implemented in 2026 to standardize data across agencies. - ➤ On June 10, Kane County approved spending $353,071 to buy a new Boston Dynamics Spot mobile robot that will help the bomb squad disable bombs and complete other tasks—this robot, which can climb stairs and open doors, will replace a 27-year-old model and keep officers safe. Daily Herald
