- ➤ Elgin was nominated as one of the top choices for Best Place to Live in the Daily Herald’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards — its second nomination in a row. Residents can vote until June 28 to support the city in winning the award. City of Elgin
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Last weekend at Fox Valley Trolley Museum in South Elgin, about 300 visitors took a train ride from the museum to Jon Duerr Forest Preserve to view World War II reenactments with about 80 participants portraying soldiers from American, German, Russian and Polish units. Organizer James Tarbet said the event honored family military traditions and highlighted roles behind the scenes—tickets for upcoming special rides are now on sale. Kane County Chronicle

- ➤ Lt. Colonel Nathan Werve, a native of Geneva who lives in South Elgin, retired after 23 years of service in the Marine Corps as a naval aviator and helicopter pilot. He led combat missions and training exercises that supported national defense and humanitarian efforts. Daily Herald
- ➤ Hanover Township launched a Respite Program to help caregivers and at-risk residents get needed breaks through its Caregiver Resource Center, which was funded with $20,724 from AgeOptions. Residents can call (630) 483-5660 to schedule an intake appointment for in-home or out-of-home respite services. Daily Herald
