- ➤ Northern Illinois Food Bank hosted its 13th annual A Taste That Matters fundraiser on May 21 at Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace and raised over $430,000—funds that will help 900 local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior sites and feeding programs across 13 counties. More than 600 guests attended the event, and the proceeds translated into over $3.4 million worth of groceries to feed neighbors each month. Daily Herald
- ➤ Hanover Township is starting a free Summer Open Gym Program on Monday that will run through Aug. 8. It will be held at five schools and the Izaak Walton Youth Center (899 Jay Street), where youth will take part in team building, STEM projects and arts activities. Daily Herald

- ➤ Rolling Meadows police Sgt. Carlos Saez was arrested for a road rage fight on April 23 on Route 25 in Elgin — he is charged with three felonies after witness reports and video show he pistol-whipped a man and fired his gun near his head while claiming he acted in self-defense. Daily Herald

- ➤ At the town hall meeting on May 27, the Hanover Township Mental Health Board approved $69,500 in funding for local mental health services, awarding $20,000 to the Ecker Center, $10,000 to Special Olympics of Illinois, $5,000 to PADS of Elgin, and $34,500 for mental health housing at Hanover Landing — two new board members were sworn in to serve four-year terms. - ➤ The Regional Transportation Authority said the Senate bill leaves a $771 million gap in transit funding and will force significant service cuts in 2026.
