- ➤ A free outdoor benefit concert is scheduled for Monday, June 2 at St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church in Elgin. The classic rock band Voices will perform at 5:30 p.m. — attendees should bring chairs, blankets, and beverages while snack purchases support the Northern Illinois Food Bank mobile pantry. - ➤ Elgin residents now have a new recycling drop-off site at Midwest Compost (1320 Spaulding Road) available for single-family and multi-family households. The site will operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., and it will close on Sundays with posted recycling guidelines for proper drop-offs. - ➤ Two people were charged with a hate crime after a 19-year-old woman was beaten at a Carpentersville McDonald’s on May 13 because she was targeted for her sexual identity — one accused is a 19-year-old from the 900 block of Hillcrest Road in Elgin and the other is a 16-year-old male. - ➤ Some Elgin residents expressed concern that plans to build a Hindu temple, townhomes and a condo on 34 acres of undeveloped land will worsen traffic—and over 100 locals signed a petition in protest.
