- ➤ The Glenbard West High School Wrestling Team was named Marklund’s 2024 Volunteer Group of the Year at an event held at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago and was honored for volunteering at Marklund centers in Bloomingdale, Elgin and Geneva. The team helped with a 5K event, holiday decorations and community gift openings — and they plan to display a banner at school. Daily Herald

- ➤ Early Monday on May 19, firefighters responded to a porch fire at a Seneca Street home in Elgin that forced nine residents to relocate, and investigators said discarded smoking materials caused the accidental blaze & one person was treated and released. Daily Herald

- ➤ Elgin teacher Alison Smith—who learned about supporting students with special needs as a teen—was named Marklund’s 2024 Volunteer of the Year at a recent volunteer Appreciation Brunch. Former student Matt presented her award, and she volunteers at Marklund locations in Elgin, Bloomingdale and Geneva by providing pet therapy and organizing community events. Daily Herald

Randall Road after nearly five years of seeking a location—planned improvements include new sidewalks, trees, and landscaping. The council also approved a new tattoo parlor at Tyler Creek Plaza where Chris Chapman of Nice Choice Club LLC will open a three-chair shop by appointment—operating from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the space once used by an employment agency.
