- ➤ On May 8, more than 425 community members gathered at The Seville in Streamwood for the 41st annual YWCA Leader Luncheon Awards where Elisa Lara welcomed guests and thanked sponsors while honoring all 2025 nominees. The event recognized winners in several categories including the arts — now renamed the Margaret Hillis and Dr. Rise Jones Award for the Arts — and featured a new Youth Leadership Award given to Valerie Villegas of Bartlett High School with a $2,000 scholarship. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two people were rescued from the Fox River near Interstate 90 at 8:15 a.m. Sunday after their boat capsized, and firefighters with a rescue diver skilled in swift water quickly brought them safely to shore—both were wearing flotation devices and did not require hospital treatment. Daily Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ U-46 held a ceremony on April 23 to honor 30 first-generation college-bound seniors from Bartlett, Elgin, Larkin, South Elgin and Streamwood high schools. Each student will get a $2,000 scholarship from the U-46 Educational Foundation—funded by a grant and local donors—to help pay for college. Daily Herald
