EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six high school sophomores and juniors were named winners in the Kane County Law Day Essay contest held on May 1 at Kaneland High School—Isabel Aguilera earned second place while monetary prizes of $500 and $250 were awarded for first and lower standings. The contest was hosted by the 16th Judicial Circuit and the Kane County Bar Foundation to honor the American Bar Association’s Law Day theme 'The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One' as a tribute to national unity.  Kane County Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chief Trevor Herrmann will retire on May 16th from the Hampshire Fire Protection District after 36 years of service—ending a family legacy that began in 1931. Dave Schmidt, who spent many years with the Elgin and South Elgin fire departments, will be sworn in as his successor on May 14th.  Daily Herald
