CRIME NEWS

  • A Kane County jury convicted St. Charles driving instructor Paul Bocska of 16 felony counts of sexual assault after he skipped his trial — an arrest warrant was issued and a sentencing hearing is set for June 4.  Kane County Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Voices Unlimited chorus will present their spring concert “Thank You For the Music” at Journey of Hope Methodist Church in Elgin on May 18. The mixed-voice group will perform sacred and secular songs including works by Streisand and Diamond (doors open at 2:30 p.m.) with additional accompaniment and special solo performances (tickets cost $10 or $5 for children under 12).  Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scott Stalcup, a newly elected board member from Sugar Grove, was sworn in at the Kaneland D302 School Board meeting on April 28 — his four-year term will end in 2029 as incumbent members Aaron Lawler and Jennifer Simmons retained their seats while former board president Addam Gonzales lost his seat.  Kane County Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olga del Toro, a lead risk assessor with the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, retired after 30 years at the Kane County Health Department. She used an X-ray fluorescence machine to inspect homes for lead and taught families how to reduce their lead risks.  Daily Herald

  • Jan Breitmayer from Elgin recently turned 100 and celebrated the milestone with family, friends, and church members who recognized her lifetime of quiet service + advice to stay active.
