- ➤ The Elgin Fire Department will host the 33rd Annual Elgin Area Firefighter Memorial Service on May 3 at 10 a.m. at the Illinois Firefighters’ Memorial Plaza in the George Van De Voorde Firefighter Memorial Park — Fire Chief Robb Cagann will lead the ceremony honoring fallen firefighters with a proclamation from Mayor David Kaptain, and if rain occurs the event will move indoors to the Heritage Ballroom at the Centre of Elgin. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Hampshire firefighters responded to two carbon monoxide incidents this week that sent six people to Elgin hospitals—one on Tuesday evening at a downtown business when high gas levels were found at 8:08 p.m. and one on May 1 at Buckhead Meat & Seafood where workers were checked. - ➤ The family of James Moriarty, shot by Kane County deputies on May 24, 2023, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in federal court against Sheriff Ron Hain and Deputy Michael Widlarz, alleging that excessive force during his arrest violated his rights and seeking a jury trial and unspecified damages while a status hearing is set for July 23—testimonies claim that his rights were ignored during his apprehension.
