- ➤ Elgin will host its annual Fourth of July Parade and Celebration on Friday, July 4, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Douglas and Slade and ending near City Hall at Douglas and Highland—participants must register now as spaces are limited with registration closing once full or by June 6. City of Elgin
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Suburban rockers Vintage Blonde Chicago will launch their debut album 'Afterlife' Sunday, May 4 at Schuba’s Tavern in Chicago as one of the last projects of audio engineer Steve Albini—while the Elgin Symphony Orchestra will conclude its season with Holst’s 'The Planets' at the Hemmens Cultural Center on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4. Elmhurst and downtown Chicago will also host art shows, theater, and dance events including a free fair at Art in Wilder Park with over 130 exhibitors. Daily Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Kane County Fair board in St. Charles announced that 4-H students Samuel Haviland from Elgin and Autumn Kriegel from Hampshire will each receive $750 per year for four years—totaling $3,000—for their higher education. Haviland will study agribusiness at Illinois State University while Kriegel will major in accounting at Iowa State University after they graduate in May. Daily Herald
