- ➤ A 58-year-old man from Elgin (Carlos Saez) was charged with aggravated battery and reckless discharge of a firearm after a traffic dispute escalated into a fight that involved gunfire, and he was released on pretrial conditions Friday while another person (who reported no injuries) was taken to a hospital. - ➤ On April 23rd, the city council considered banning single-use plastic bags after a recommendation from the sustainability commission led by Tom Armstrong—he said fees in nearby communities did not curb bag use—and city staff will draft an ordinance to align with proposed state legislation.
