- ➤ Elgin’s Lakeshore Recycling Services extended the enrollment deadline for the Organic Cart Program to May 29 for June delivery—20% of households have already joined the effort. Those enrolling after May 29 will see their service start within one to two weeks in July. City of Elgin

- ➤ Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley was honored with the national Axon Visionary Leadership Award Tuesday in Phoenix for her innovative progressive policing methods—she donated the $5,000 award to the police union. Daily Herald
- ➤ Elgin city council discussed a recommendation from the sustainability commission to consider a ban on single-use plastic bags after Commission Chairman Tom Armstrong presented the idea on Wednesday. City Manager Rick Kozal said his staff will draft an ordinance mirroring an Illinois Senate bill that bans plastic bags starting in 2029 + most council members supported a ban over a fee.
