COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City Haul Garage Sale will take place this weekend at the Eastside Recreation Center, 1080 E. Chicago St. in Elgin, offering a wide mix of items including office furniture, costumes, and supplies—cash and card payments are accepted and shoppers who bring a bag will receive a freebie. The event runs Friday, April 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  City of Elgin
  • Chefs from Elgin restaurants will serve local dishes at Food for Greater Elgin’s Pallet to Palate charity event Monday, April 28 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Centre of Elgin’s Heritage Ballroom—tickets cost $75 and the event will feature live music, raffle prizes, and a cash bar—while the fundraiser aims to help fight food insecurity.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Side Street Studio Arts in downtown Elgin will present ‘Voices Visible,’ a pop-up exhibition featuring five dynamic artists of color chosen through its 2025 initiative, Explorations of Equity in the Arts in Elgin, with a free reception on Friday, April 25th from 6 to 9 p.m. The program also offers free workshops—such as block printing on May 16 and loom beadwork on June 5—to support local creative talent.  Daily Herald
  • Journey of Hope United Methodist Church in Elgin will host the Alleluia Quartet — celebrating their 40th anniversary — on Saturday, April 26, starting with a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. and followed by a concert at 6:30 p.m. at the church’s campus at Randall Road and Highland Avenue with a free-will offering to support a mission trip to Spirit Lake, North Dakota.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Forest Preserve District of Kane County will open its campgrounds on May 1 for a season that runs through Oct. 19—campers can reserve sites online at Paul Wolff in Elgin or Big Rock in Big Rock, with improved, primitive, and equestrian options available. Daily fees vary by residency and campers need to complete online reservations before arriving.  Kane County Chronicle
  • Today at 7:00 p.m. the City Council meets at City Hall Council Chambers to get public input on the city’s plan to replace nearly 11,000 lead water service lines & to review an Environmental Impacts Determination; residents may also send written comments for up to ten days after the meeting.  City of Elgin
