CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A DeKalb man, Antoine M. Murdock, 27, was charged after a 9mm gun and about 25 grams of cannabis were found in his car during a March 28 traffic stop in Kaneville Township. He faces charges of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon—class 4 felony—and unlawful possession of cannabis—class b misdemeanor with a court date set for May 1. Daily Herald

- ➤ Northwest Bible Baptist will host its annual Easter event when 180 voices from its combined choirs will sing Handel’s 'Hallelujah Chorus' to open the evening service at 6 p.m. on April 20 at its auditorium on 9N889 Nesler Road in Elgin—everyone is welcome to join the celebration honoring Jesus. - ➤ Today, the city of Elgin begins several infrastructure projects under its Capital Improvement Program to upgrade roads, utilities and public spaces, including a new roundabout at U.S. Route 20 and Reinking Road and the reconstruction of Dundee Avenue from Enterprise Street to Page Avenue. Officials warn that these projects, funded by federal and local sources, will cause traffic backups and lane reductions and are expected to finish by May 2026 and October 2026 — residents should consider alternate routes during delays. - ➤ Bernice and Frank Monteleone have raised minks in Elgin for over 65 years as lawmakers consider HB2627 to license mink farms with virus testing and a $1,000 fee. Supporters say the bill will protect public health while critics—fearing it may force farms to shut down—argue it imposes an impossible burden on small mink farmers. Daily Herald
