CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Christ the Lord Lutheran Church on Tina Trail in Elgin invites the community to Holy Week services starting with Palm Sunday on April 13 at 9:30 a.m. The church holds additional services on Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m., Good Friday at noon, and Easter Sunday at 9:30 a.m.—donations of food, diapers and funds are encouraged. - ➤ Seven local people and groups will be honored during the annual Mayor’s Awards for Preservation on April 29 at the Hemmens Cultural Center, an event open to the public and live on the City of Elgin’s YouTube channel. Nine heritage plaques will also be presented to property owners who have researched historic buildings (over 500 plaques have been awarded since 1986). Daily Herald

- ➤ Campton Township's $17.2 million open space referendum is leading by 87 votes with unofficial counts of 2,048 yes to 1,961 no. Township Supervisor John Kupar said he is hopeful the measure will pass, but the final count will be completed April 15—voters will shape plans for added property and improvements on existing open spaces.
