COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kane County Judge Kevin Busch issued a temporary restraining order on Wednesday—blocking the sale of the rural Maple Park property where Casey's Safe Haven Holistic Rescue and Sanctuary cares for abused horses after it filed a lawsuit on March 24. The nonprofit is set for another court hearing on April 22 as it seeks to secure a permanent home.  Kane County Chronicle
  • The Batavia Rotary Club, along with the St. Charles Breakfast Rotary Club and the Elgin Breakfast Rotary Club, announced its joint participation in a Rotary District 6440 Collaborative Grant supporting Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley’s affordable home-building projects in communities including Elgin. A volunteer service day will be held Friday, April 19 — at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 800 N. State St. to clean, organize, and stock shelves.  Daily Herald

  • Elgin Area School District U-46 honored 10 staff today with Accent on Achievement certificates through the ISBE Those Who Excel program, and precision manufacturing teacher Matt Erbach was named a Golden Apple Award finalist for Excellence in Teaching. The honorees include teachers, administrators and a coordinator for the district’s homeless education program—U-46 Superintendent Suzanne Johnson said their dedication prepares students for success—.  Daily Herald

  • Kane County has launched Recycle Coach—a free web tool and mobile app that gives residents quick answers on recycling and displays local collection information. A free lunch and learn online demo on April 23 from noon to 1 p.m. with Recycling Program Coordinator Clair Ryan will show how to use the tool.  Daily Herald
