- ➤ Elgin is partnering with Kane County and The Conservation Foundation to offer residents upcycled 55-gallon rain barrels or composters that will help manage stormwater and lower water bills. Residents must pre-order by May 5 and pick up their items on May 8 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 1900 Holmes Rd. City of Elgin

- ➤ Hanover Township is hosting a free parenting group for caregivers and adults with disabled children starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the Hanover Township Town Hall 250 S. Route 59 in Bartlett. The group will meet every Thursday through May 15—featuring guest speakers on IEPs, state disability services, Social Security disability benefits and respite care to help families with the transition to adulthood. - ➤ Kane County board members said spending cuts may be needed after voters overwhelmingly rejected a proposed sales tax increase—52,437 against it and 17,421 for it—that would have generated over $51 million for public safety. Board members plan to discuss tighter processes at their meeting on April 8 if additional revenue cannot be found. Daily Herald
- ➤ Following the April 1 consolidated election, Elgin voters re-elected incumbents Corey Dixon, Dustin Good, and Steve Thoren to city council and chose new member-elect Diana Alfaro to replace Councilwoman Carol Rauschenberger. The new council members will be sworn in for four-year terms during the City Council meeting on May 14 while vote totals will be certified on April 22. City of Elgin

- ➤ The Kane County Health Department launched the Connect with Kane: Learn, Grow, Thrive campaign to help residents find local mental health and substance use services and learn more about care options.
