- ➤ On Wednesday, the Salvation Army of Elgin partnered with Bear Family Restaurants and the Elgin Police Department to launch Operation Loving Hope, a program that gives children entering foster care a comfort suitcase with essential items—pajamas, socks, a handmade blanket, a stuffed bear and McDonald’s gift certificates. Local officials said the program aims to ease the trauma for children removed from unsafe homes. Daily Herald

- ➤ Senate Bill 2427, sponsored by Sen. Christina Castro of Elgin, cleared a Senate committee on Tuesday and could soon be considered by the full Senate. The bill would require school boards to ban personal wireless devices during class time except for emergencies or for educational needs and medical care—its rules are set to start for the 2026-27 school year.
