- ➤ A powerful storm pulled off nearly half the copper roof from First United Methodist Church over the weekend—most of the sanctuary remained intact. Pastor Felicia LaBoy said the community support was overwhelming—Sunday service will be offered over Zoom while the church works with insurers and contractors on repairs. Daily Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Elgin Community College will host its annual free 'Experience ECC' open house on April 16 at the Spartan Drive campus — 1700 Spartan Drive. Visitors may join campus tours from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and then attend the open house in Building B from 6:30 to 8 p.m. where they will learn about over 130 degree and certificate programs. - ➤ REV Entertainment from Arlington, Texas bought the Kane County Cougars from Bob Froehlich for an undisclosed sum — the contract with the Forest Preserve District now runs until 2034 and the company will continue upgrades at the Geneva stadium. The new owners will be formally introduced on April 2 at Northwestern Medicine Field as they commit to building on the team’s long tradition of family baseball. Daily Herald
- ➤ Previews of Kane County high school baseball teams show that coaches are counting on both returning stars and new players for a strong 2025 season — teams such as Aurora Central Catholic, Aurora Christian, Batavia, Burlington Central, Geneva, Kaneland, Marmion, St. Charles East, St. Charles North, St. Francis and West Aurora will try to improve on last season as play begins this week.
