New wedge barriers installed in downtown Elgin will be raised on Riverside Drive every Friday at 3 p.m. and lowered Monday at 6 a.m. until Oct. 12 to create a pedestrian-only zone for weekend events + barriers on South Grove Avenue will be activated only during large events.

Hundreds of people lined Kimball Street in Elgin on Thursday to join the 'Good Trouble Lives On' protest that honored John Lewis and called for voting rights and civil liberties. Local residents, including Janet Vercelli, said it was their 12th protest and that they opposed current government policies + they carried signs supporting immigrants, workers' rights, and public education.
Amazon donated over 1,500 backpacks to Project Backpack โ Elgin Community Collegeโs annual drive to supply school supplies to students in need. The event will include free physical and dental clinics on Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Building J, 1700 Spartan Drive.
